Flickr me

By | June 14, 2008

It started because I decided to fool around with my camera, just taking some play around shots of the alleys behind my apartment.

Now I want to have a picnic in the park followed by a Photos of The Big City Day.

It might sound a little hokey, but I think it would be fun.  Okay, so admittedly, this really started last night, when I was googling Strawberry Mansion.  One of the first hits was PhillySkyline.com, which had me mesmerized for several hours.

Confession: even though I’m not great with the ol’ Olympus, my dad is.  This makes me a wee bit jealous, because I don’t like it when I’m not automatically great at anything.  Shhh!  Don’t tell my parents, because they’ve maintained that this attitude is one of my worst flaws.

Anyway.

Then I started to think about how I’ve always wanted to spend the day walking around the city and just taking photos, seeing what – if anything – turns out well.  You youngin’ readers may not realize it, but back in my day, we actually had to take our photos to be developed.  So unless you really knew what you were doing, it could get a little costly to just screw around with your camera all day.

But now, thanks to newfangled technologies and the innerwebz, any jackass with a Flickr account can be a deep and introspective photographer.

Count me in to this fad.  My reasoning is that if blurry photos with kicky titles make you a photographer, then I have no shame in putting my photos up online and kidding myself into thinking some of them are decent.

Back to the point.

If you know me, and – let’s face it, if you’re reading this blog, you probably do – then you know I have wacky ideas running through my head all the time.  I think we should have a picnic and photo day, because it would be fun.  And then we can up our pretentious ante by meeting back up for chardonnay, Brie, and naturally, judging.
