Enjoy these news bits:
- A Chinese man keeps his severed leg in formaldehyde for 20 years. Why? To warn people about the dangers of drinking and driving.
- Speaking of boozing, apparently, Obama is an alcoholic. It’s not because of the binge drinking, it’s because the 48 year old occasionally drinks a beer.
- Apparently, privileged women complaining about how Barbie isn’t reflective of their struggle because they’re a size 4, not a 0, is – indeed – the face of feminism. Fuck those stupid fat, poor, queer, women of color; those bitches don’t truly understand the struggle.
- As I said on Facebook, this truly highlights not only why Democrats might be misguided, but have their hearts in the right place but also why Republicans couldn’t care less about poor people dying in ERs.
- In this tl;dr piece, I learned that Michael Ruse really does not like it when atheist bloggers say mean things about him.
- Finally, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania makes a smart move regarding the economy and Harrisburg officials have decided to layoff 250 state employees. It’s certainly not enough to make a significant dent, but it’s a step in the right direction.
- A British woman parked her car legally, only to have it removed, her parking spot made illegal, replaced and then towed away from the freshly painted tow away zone. Her local government then wanted to fine her 2240 pounds (just shy of $3700 USD)…
- …but John Mackey is still an asshole for not trusting a government agency to properly manage health care.
- In completely unrelated and awesome hipster news, I just found out about Pinups for Pitbulls, a non-profit organization that is trying to restore the good name of Pits.
- In small town journalism news, the Hartford Courant fired George Gombassy, the paper’s consumer advocate, for pissing off an advertiser. Apparently, Sleepy’s didn’t like the fact that Gombassy had exposed their grody business practices.
- PIRG is a sweatshop. Not a big shocker to anyone who has been involved in collegiate level political organizing.
- Straight men, women, and gays (lol j/k), all working together for the greater good: murdering brown people. That’s equality, my friends! (Use bugmenot.com to bypass compulsory registration for the NYT.)
- I’ve never seen Mad Men, but this one kinda makes me want to watch it: Elizabeth Moss on life as the unlikely feminist in Mad Men.
