That’s scary to me. I mean, that’s seriously, downright, 100% scary to me.

I’d hate to tell you, but our economy, the war in Afghanistan (and elsewhere), LGBT rights, health care, taxes, your ability to use your fancy pants degree that probably hasn’t taught you an ounce of critical thinking, and the possibility of a Rick Santorum presidency are all issues that impact you a hell of a lot more than the wacky antics of a brash, marginally talented rapper.

Guys, though there are a lot of similarities, this shit is not being orchestrated by Aaron Sorkin. Don’t delude yourself into thinking that everything is all going to work out in the end and Santos will come along to keep fighting the good fight. We could be fucking ourselves harder every day.

But it’s cool, because clearly Obama maintaining his image as the only president hipper than Clinton is far more important than actually not fucking up. Obama continues to live up to the criticism that he is style over sustenance, and that is why you should be scared.

I know this might come across as some snarky little “gotcha” commentary, but I have a 100% legit question:

How can socialized/universal/tit-tastic/wtfever you want to call it health care simultaneously make health care accessible for everyone while not causing additional waiting times for various procedures?

It’s not a matter of me “buying into propaganda” or any dismissive thing like that.  It’s a legit question.  I don’t see how it is possible to give people “free” health care that will encourage them to get medical treatment without a large increase in people utilizing that “free” health care and choking up the health care system.  Seriously, it takes a good 2 months or so to get a gyno appointment in this country for a routine checkup; I find it very difficult to believe that the wait times would not increase significantly.

It’s a very basic supply and demand equation.  When everyone suddenly has access to health insurance, but the number of doctors don’t suddenly multiply, you’ll be stuck with a much higher demand than supply.  Which is going to lead to longer wait times and a higher chance that you won’t be able to get time-sensitive treatments.  I’m not a fancy pants economist here, but it seems pretty obvious to me.  I’m wondering if maybe I’m missing something and somebody could explain how you can get both more accessible health care while not choking up the system.

Of course, I’m not even taking into consideration the endless bullshit calls and doctors appointments that will inevitably help to choke up the system even more than it already is in low-income, urban areas.

I’m sure this will draw out a ton of idiots whose only “constructive” words on the matter are along the lines of “Y DO U H8 POOR PPL? NO H8!”  Right, because the rich often have to go to dental schools to get broken teeth fixed and can’t just get squeezed into an appointment at the real dentist or an oral surgeon.  (For the record, I had appointment #2 on Thursday and appointment #3 is scheduled for next Thursday.  My jaw is still a bit sore from all the yanking and prodding around in there.)  It sucks that we’re out a few hundred bucks that we really don’t have for me to get a root canal and another few hundred bucks for me to get a crown.  At the same time, I’m really lucky that within 3 weeks of breaking my tooth, I’ll have most of the work done.  I don’t know if I could guarantee that luck with a universal/socialized health care plan.

The biggest shame in all of this is that universal/socialized health care’s supporters are often the biggest reason I’m turned off from it.  I mean, John Mackey, CEO of Whole Foods, states an OPINION in an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal, and liberals go ballistic.  (Because you’ve never held an opinion that your employer’s clientele may not like.)  A twitter friend childishly bleated that if universal health care didn’t go through, she was going to cancel her insurance plan and rely on ERs for everything.  I’m assuming she’s not planning on paying those bills, but regardless of whether or not she is, her empty threat highlights the fact that very few Democrats and liberals seem to understand how to make this plan more palatable.  It highlights the fact that many seem to care less about alleviating people’s fears and concerns and more about just getting what they want done.

It’s for the same reason that certain episodes of Intervention make my fucking head explode.  They will sometimes chase the addict down to force them to go into treatment; this, to me, points more to the family’s desire to get their own way then to make sure the person gets off drugs/alcohol and stays off.  I really hate the fact that high ranking Democrats are reminding me of attention seeking reality TV “stars.”  Isn’t it a little scary that this is the first comparison I’m making in my mind?

I would love for Democrats to actually, truly explain why this plan is good, why it will be beneficial, and why it won’t end the way I see it ending.  I have a feeling that even if getting this clear explanation was possible, Democrats would rather pull the same exact Bush era shit they were decrying since 2001.

I can’t imagine why I’d vote third party.

Well, lookswise, at least. Because you know as well as I do that Chaka Fattah would be way more fun to party with than Bob Barr. Considering I have it on good authority that all Boob Bob Barr can do is talk about himself in the third person a la Facebook status and stare at The Twins, I’d much rather knock back some pricey bottles of white wine and rip on whitey with Chaka any day.

I call our answering machine 3 out of every 4 times I hit the bars and clubs. I don’t know why I do it, I think I just enjoy annoying my sleeping boyfriend rambling to Boyfriend even though he’s dead asleep. I never let him delete the messages. When I clean off the answering machine, I listen to my drunken messages and laugh hysterically.  The best drunken rambling on the phone was not be me, however.  It was from Gay Best Friend (GBF), who once called the house to ask Boyfriend where I was.  Boyfriend responded with “ummm, she’s with you?”  GBF denied it and then shrieked “OMG THERE SHE IS GOTTA” [click].

The worst part is that even when I’m sober, they somehow make sense to me. I guess that doesn’t say a whole lot for me.

Good times.  Good times.

(Well, barring me becoming an overly emotional cutter fuck or something.  I had originally said “suicidal,” but I can think of much better ways to go.  This is the exact type of melodramatic bullshit that cutters latch onto.)

Now, before you comment that this is something that I just haven’t opened my mind up to, I’ve tried to watch LOTR. I really tried. I tried so hard, but…I just couldn’t do it.  I got through about an hour of the first one, and realized that it was Forrest Gump all over again.

After I finished watching Forrest Gump, I was pissed. Not just disappointed, but visibly fucking angry. I was infuriated that the three-fucking-thousand minutes of my life that I would NEVER get back actually won multiple Academy Awards.  There was some shit I went into with an open mind, and what the frig did it get me?  Higher blood pressure and a newfound hatred for Tom Hanks. But what enraged me the most was that others insisted that I really liked the movie even though it made me homicidal.

And the LOTR crowd is the same damn crowd.  Except creepier.  And more Ren Faire like, with a splash of RPG involved, but the somehow really lame Ren Faires and RPGs, even for Ren Faire/RPG standards.

I also can’t deal with a lot of the LOTR crowd, either. They seem to fit in that camp of Radiohead, DMB, and Tori Amos fans.

You know exactly what I’m talking ’bout.  Don’t even front like you don’t.

It’s awesome that you want to convert everyone to Jackisanity. That’s awesome, but just ask anyone who really knows me how of a tolerance I have for Jehovah’s Witnesses.  (Hint: I’m the same person who told a child Witness and her mother that this was a house full of atheists and they were wasting their time.  SDC was not too happy about that.)  I don’t do well with the Chick Tract crowd, and considering that the thought that LOTR is somehow more important than, I don’t know, my eternal salvation or damnation is dubious – to say the least – I’m guessing that I can die happy without ever having watched Frodo chill with the ring.

To reiterate: If I haven’t budged on religion, where I’m potentially at risk for burning in hell for my entire afterlife, I’m certainly not making the 12 hour investment just so I can “yes, I watched the entire LOTR trilogy.”

I get that you really dig LOTR, but man, quit acting like such Jesus Camp evangelicals about it.  I liked you guys better when you were dragging the TV cart into class so we could watch Telefrancais.  (Oh, how I miss that wacky l’anana!)
